We opened our first three public charter schools in central Brooklyn in 2005. Today, students across our 24 high-performing Brooklyn and Queens charter schools are outscoring the top districts in New York. Our schools are preparing thousands of K-12 students in our community for success in college and for the opportunities that flow from an excellent education. By incorporating common core curriculum, STEM programs, AP classes, and more our students excel and develop a strong passion for learning. Our schools are non-profit charter schools that are committed to students’ long-term success. For more information about individual Brooklyn and Queens schools, please click on the links below.
We run free, high-quality, K-12 public charter schools in Brooklyn. Our students regularly outperform their state and local peers and all of our teachers and leaders are committed to helping them achieve their dreams.
Ê®·ÖÁùºÏ²Ê Bushwick has been named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. This is a first for our network, and AF Bushwick is among only 362 schools to receive this prestigious honor this year.
Students at AF University Prep High score an average of 1126 on the SAT, outperforming both their peers
from similar backgrounds (990) and the national average (1068).
AF students are scoring at double the proficiency rates at their peers in our host
districts. It shows what we all know—kids can achieve incredible things when you give them the
opportunity to do so.
Students in the Speech and Debate program at AF Brooklyn High have won the State Championship and placed third, ninth, and 11th across three national championships. What’s more, their winning speeches center
on our students’ truth, social justice, and identity. They push for change in an arena that is overwhelmingly white and affluent.
